LADISLAV MIKO

festival president

A soil biologist, ecologist, and respected environmentalist with a profound insight into both science and policy. He lectures at Charles University, spent more than a decade as a professor at the University of Antwerp, and is the author of numerous scientific publications and popular science projects.

His distinguished career spans public administration and the European Commission – from Director for Biodiversity, through Director-General of DG SANTE, to Head of the European Commission Representation in Slovakia. In the Czech Republic, he served as Minister of the Environment, adviser to the Minister, and currently as Environmental Adviser to President Petr Pavel.

As the long-standing President of the international EKOFILM festival, he is also a passionate science communicator and an authority in soil biology. Above all, he remains a scientist at heart – a specialist in soil mites (Oribatida), a field that has taken him to diverse ecosystems around the globe.
