EKOFILM is the oldest international environmental film festival in Europe.
Its roots date back to 1974, when it was established as a breakaway from the Techfilm festival. Since 1991, the festival has been organized primarily by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic.
Each year, the festival presents dozens of competition films from around the world and invites prominent Czech and international guests. Since 2015, the festival has been held in Brno and the 51st edition is organized jointly by the event agency Key Promotion, FRRMS Mendelu and EkoInkubátor. The festival president is Ladislav Miko, former Minister of the Environment and a member of the advisory board to the President of the Czech Republic.
Every year, the festival opens up discussion on some of the most pressing environmental topics of today. In addition to dozens of competitive and non-competitive films from the Czech Republic and abroad – competing in several categories – the festival offers lectures and workshops with experts, discussions and talks with special guests and filmmakers, and features an evening concert and other cultural events.
