American Michael Reynolds can easily be nicknamed the most significant waste architect in the world. For over three decades he’s been successfully building very cheap houses with their own energy, water and heat sources. For their construction he uses car tyres, beer cans and glass bottles. In spite of this, or maybe because of this, the surprisingly well-functioning alternative housing designed by the architect and supporter of sustainable development from New Mexico still meets with many bureaucratic obstacles in the U.S. For three years the director was recording his fight with U.S. oficials. He set out together with the architect and a group of similarly passionate colleagues to the tsunami-destroyed Andaman Islands where their cheap and practical houses met with great enthusiasm.

Jury’s statement:
The international jury appreciates the exceptionally interesting and highly professional treatment of the film. In a situation when global consumerism floods the whole planet with heaps of waste the activity of every individual, in this case of Michael Reynolds, aimed in the right direction is very important.
